Synopsis:

The heartrending novel that brings to light the story of women forced into prostitution in the concentration camps.

Maria finds herself in a double crisis, both personal and professional. As a journalist, she is in decline, her boss constantly criticizes her for her lack of intuition, and she turns to alcohol in seek of refuge. Furthermore, her relationship with her girlfriend Carla hangs in the balance due to her dependence on alcohol and her job.

After the death of her grandmother, Maria moves into the huge apartment where she used to live; she wants Carla to move back in with her and is willing to make an effort to resume her career as a journalist. But her dependence on alcohol leads her to give in to temptation when she discovers a bottle of aniseed while searching for documents for her research. While drunk, she comes across an envelope containing three photos. One of them portrays a woman with her face hidden, revealing a tattoo on her chest that reads “FELD-HURE”. On the back is a name, Isadora Ramirez Garcia, and a date, October 14, 1945.

This discovery leads Maria into a gripping and disturbing investigation in which she soon discovers that the life of her grandmother and her family is riddled with unanswered questions and painful enigmas. Everything points to the Ravensbrück concentration camp and the story of a mysterious woman, Isadora Rodriguez. As Maria delves deeper into her investigation, she faces dangers and secrets that will change her life forever.

Real and imaginary characters, unimaginable horror, but also friendship, resistance and sisterhood conform this novel about exile to living hells where nothing, not even the most profound madness, make cruelty comprehensible.
